Platelet Rich Plasma
Our platelet-rich plasma Los Angeles service, or PRP, consists of using the by-product of blood, or plasma, that is rich in platelets. This service was once confined to only be used in hospital settings until recently due to the high costs of the procedure. Not only was it expensive to separate platelets from blood, but it also required a large amount of blood (One unit). Fortunately, modern technology now allows doctors to gather a satisfactory amount of platelets from a small 55cc blood draw.
Why PRP?
Our platelet-rich plasma Los Angeles service is used in order to take advantage of plasma’s speedy healing properties. As the body heals, cells and cell-types such as platelets are rushed to the wound in order to begin the healing process. Platelets play a role in the formation of blood clots as well as the release of growth factors.
- Platelet Derived Growth Factors (PGDF)
- Transforming Growth Factor Beta (TGF)
- Insulin-like Growth Factor (ILGF)
These GFs are responsible for stimulating stem cells to generate new tissue and repairing the wound. A subfamily of TGF, bone morphogenic protein (BMP), has been shown to help in the formation of new bone. This new evidence has drastically changed the way surgeons can perform dental implants.

FAQ About PRP
Is PRP safe?
Yes! A small amount of blood is drawn using an IV during the surgery and is prepped and ready to use in less than 15 minutes.
Is PRP necessary for all bone-grafting?
No. In some cases, PRP isn’t necessary. However, in most cases, PRP on the bone graft will increase the amount of bone present and also allow the wound to heal more efficiently, and faster.
Does my insurance cover it?
Unfortunately, no.
